If you are 16 years of age or older, you must carry an unexpired federal stamp for hunting and migratory bird protection. You must validate your duck stamp by signing it with ink on your face before hunting. You can also purchase a federal duck stamp online as an electronic duck stamp valid for 45 days from the date of purchase. Within this period, a physical duck stamp will be sent to you. After 45 days, you must carry your signed federal duck stamp with you during the hunt. You must also have a valid South Carolina Migratory Water Permit or proof of purchase before hunting. It is illegal to operate an airboat on the waters of the Waccamaw, Great Pee Dee, Little Pee Dee, Black and Sampit rivers in Georgetown and Horry counties from one hour before legal sunset to one hour after legal sunrise and at any time during the waterfowl hunting season. Check local newspapers for sunrise and sunset and plan accordingly. In Leon County and Miccosukee Lake, waterfowl hunting is only permitted on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays during the regular duck hunting season (November 19-27 and December 10 to January 29), as well as on November 24-25 and January 16. However, Talquin Lake and the Ochlockonee River are open daily for hunting during the regular duck season. During the open season, hunting of ducks, geese and coots is only permitted on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays in Gulf State waters in Hernando County, north of Raccoon Point and east of Saddle Key, as indicated by signs. It is forbidden to take or attempt to take Harlequins, Goose and Purple Gallinules. Duck blinds – It is illegal to hunt within 30 metres of a permanently blind person on Miccosukee Lake and Iamonia, Jackson and Carr Lakes.
