This podcast demystifies the legal system and reveals the raw and often inappropriate elements of personal injury law. Patrick Daniel and Randy Canché will quickly tell you that it`s not at all like you see it on TV. They are happy to share their vast legal knowledge and shed light on the tricks, bullying, hide-and-seek games and pitfalls of personal injury lawsuits. You will learn a lot, but above all you will capture their passion. Lawyers have also lived. We only appreciate them when we need them. Emily interviews a dedicated legal supervisor who sings and performs in public, but is willing to pass on her experience to young employees who need an ambitious but fulfilling life that rewards all their talents. The Legal Lens offers an honest look at how the law affects society, through the lens of two litigants. Each film offers a legal lens that shows where laws contribute to problems and how the law provides levers for change. I come from a non-legal background, so you can expect a lot of questions from me that I hope you would have, uh, as a simple Muggle and not as a law student or lawyer. Um, I`m from a TV background, so it made perfect sense to put this together and move forward, uh, here, Randy. Patrick: 6:03 But I mean, it`s an intimidating process. I mean, choosing a lawyer is a critical decision in your life. And honestly, no one likes lawyers until they need them. You know, and everyone, I can`t imagine how many times I get it every week. “God, I wish I had known you when I became that other lawyer`s lawyer.” You know, lawyers have a bad reputation because there are a handful of lawyers doing a bad job. You know, we want to improve the legal profession as a whole. So the fact is that we believe in very good representation, we certainly believe that we offer it, but we want to educate the community as a whole about what the legal process is.
So, again, from all of us at Patrick Daniel Law, thank you for your support. We`ll be back next week with a substantial episode and hope you connect with the legal purpose. Don`t forget to subscribe to Apple iTunes or Spotify. We`re here. Please follow us. HHS TAKES ACTION TO RESTRICT ABORTION AND TRANSGENDER HEALTH PROTECTIONS In early June, the Trump administration signed a policy that removes women seeking abortions and LGBTQ people from the non-discrimination protections of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). As expected, legal measures are planned, and some lawmakers have criticized the government for the decision – calling it “cruel and unscrupulous.” This new regulation would allow health professionals, hospitals and insurance companies (who receive federal funding) to refuse to provide and/or cover services such as abortions or transitional care. This policy demonstrates the government`s ongoing efforts to defend “religious freedom” and essentially protect medical professionals from punishment for refusing to serve on the basis of their moral beliefs. Lambda Legal, the Human Rights Campaign, the Transgender Law Center, the Harvard Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation, Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fun, and the National Women`s Law Center all plan to challenge the rule. The Human Rights Campaign has argued that this rule goes beyond the government`s authority in defining gender discrimination under the ACA and undermines the ACA`s goals of expanding access and removing barriers to care. With the completion of this policy, the government has not really changed the law, but rather created an HHS rule, but its effects have and will continue to cause a lot of confusion and injury in LGBTQ communities. Randy: 4:27 Yes, absolutely.
I think the hardest conversation I have with people is when they come to us and talk about what another lawyer has done, and they have “f-ed up,” and it`s too late and there`s so much we can do. Patrick and I are still playing cleaning, we don`t want you to make that mistake. We want you to learn from that. We want you to understand how it works. We will be abrasive. You`ll probably be shocked in some places, but these are things you need to learn so you don`t make a mistake, or so your loved ones don`t, and we can be there to guide you and really let you know what good lawyers are, because there are a lot of lawyers out there. There are intermediary lawyers and there are good lawyers and we are good lawyers. You will hear from us what it means to be a good lawyer, not only to enter the courtroom, but also how we treat our clients and how the process should unfold. It`s not about choosing your cousin or the father of your boyfriend`s ex-boyfriend. It`s about learning from very good lawyers what the legal process should be.
My name is Emily Witt and I`ve always loved stories. As a child, I spent many hours alone in my room, reading books and pretending to be a DJ using a tape recorder. I wanted to understand points of view outside of my own and I liked to ask questions. Not surprisingly, I became a legal recruiter who listened to candidates and put them in touch with opportunities that match their stories. Our career path we choose is also a story, and I love hearing what`s going on behind the scenes (including the lessons we learn along the way). Beyond the Legal Lens is a podcast that offers advice and open career conversations. In each episode, I sit down with my guests and discuss how their personal experiences have shaped the work they do today. In addition, we advise our audience on how to get the most out of your career. Law and documentary film may be far apart, but they actually share many links. Documentary filmmakers face legal issues of confidentiality, secrecy, access to public and private spaces, and ownership of images and other documents. Lawyers are increasingly using video interviews and computer-generated graphics in hearings and trials. Media culture informs views on legal decision-makers and the images of all courts and laws.
TRUMP TO URGE SUPREME COURT TO CRUSH OBAMACARE The Trump administration has said it will push the Supreme Court to cancel Obamacare amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with millions of Americans dependent on its reports. The statement is in line with the government`s ongoing legal attacks on the Health Care Act, despite warnings from Attorney General William Barr about the potential political setback of undermining the decades-old health care safety net during this pandemic emergency.
